You can’t have a birthday without cake. Make a delicious, fluffy and light Danish birthday treat, a ‘cake man’ or ‘cake woman’, using pastry dough. Decorate the birthday cake with icing and chocolate buttons or the birthday boy or girl’s favourite sweets.
Serves approx. 12
3 dl water
150g butter
1 pinch salt
150g flour
6 eggs
Simmer the water, butter and salt in a saucepan and stir in the flour.
Stir well over medium heat until the dough comes together, about 2-3 minutes.
Put the dough in a 2l Margrethe bowl and leave to cool on the countertop for 5-10 minutes.
Meanwhile, crack the eggs into a 500 ml Margrethe bowl.
Stir the eggs into the dough one at a time.
Put the dough in a pastry bag and pipe out the cakes in the shapes of small cake men/women (so they look a bit like stick people), max. 3-4 pieces per baking sheet.
Bake the cakes at 190 degrees in a preheated oven for about 20 minutes.
Once the cakes have cooled, decorate with icing and chocolate buttons or sweets.
